EdgeQuick Lite user manual

How to install, set up and use EdgeQuick Lite version 1.0.2 on Windows.

The app is multi-language and opens in Thai. To use English, press “English” on the sign-in page or in Settings → “Language”.

Install EdgeQuick Lite

Install EdgeQuick Lite with a Windows account that has administrator rights. Check the system requirements on the EdgeQuick Lite page first.

  1. Download the installer from the EdgeQuick Lite page and check it as described in “Before you install”.
  2. Double-click EdgeClick-Setup-1.0.2.exe. If Microsoft Defender SmartScreen appears, follow “Before you install”.
  3. When Windows asks for administrator permission, choose Yes. The publisher is shown as Unknown because the installer is not digitally signed.
  4. Follow the installer. You can change the installation folder.
  5. When the installer finishes, EdgeQuick Lite starts. The installer also registers a background Windows service that starts with Windows and adds Edge Click shortcuts on the desktop and in the Start menu.
  • In Windows the app is named Edge Click; on screen it is called EdgeQuick Lite.
  • If the installer reports that registering the background service failed, follow the instruction in that message or contact Modela.
  • EdgeQuick Lite keeps its settings, history, reading buffer and logs in C:\ProgramData\ConAgent.

First start and sign-in

The first time EdgeQuick Lite opens on a gateway computer, you sign in with a Modela account. This needs an internet connection. There is no other setup: after you sign in, the Dashboard opens.

  1. On “Sign in to EdgeQuick Lite”, enter your “Email” and “Password” and press “Sign in”, or press “Sign in with Google” and finish in the browser window that opens. Without an account, press “Register”: it opens modelaaiot.com in your web browser so you can create one, then sign in here.
  2. After you sign in, the Dashboard opens. If your Modela account has device lists saved in the cloud, EdgeQuick Lite offers them first (see the note under “Settings”). Then add your devices as described in “Add a device”.
  • On a gateway computer that has never been signed in, the sign-in page has no “Continue as a guest” button and shows: “The first sign-in on this gateway needs a Modela account and internet access. After that, guest mode is available too.” This also applies after updating from an earlier version if this computer has only been used in guest mode.
  • Without an internet connection the first sign-in cannot finish, and the desktop app stays on the sign-in page. Connect this computer to the internet and try again.
  • After the first sign-in on this gateway, guest mode is available too: if you are not signed in, the sign-in page appears each time the app starts; press “Continue as a guest” to go on.
  • If you are signed in and the internet connection drops, EdgeQuick Lite keeps working and keeps reading your devices. After a few minutes the side menu shows “Guest mode” instead of “Modela account”, without your email or “Log out”, and “Back up devices to the cloud” is hidden. When the internet is back, the app returns to your account by itself; you do not need to sign in again.
  • Signing in with a Modela account works only in the desktop app on the gateway computer. It lets you back up this gateway’s device list to your account. Signing in does not send your readings to Modela AIoT Cloud.
  • Each time you sign in, EdgeQuick Lite checks your account with Modela’s account service and tells modelaaiot.com that this installation signed in, with its “Installation reference ID (for support)”, the app version and the Windows version. While you stay signed in, it checks the account again about every 5 minutes. Your device list is sent only when you press “Save to Cloud”.

Add a device

EdgeQuick Lite reads Modbus RTU devices on an RS-485 line connected to a COM port of this computer, and Modbus TCP devices on your network.

  1. On the Dashboard, press “Add device”.
  2. Enter a “Device name” and choose “Modbus RTU” or “Modbus TCP”.
  3. For Modbus RTU, choose the “COM Port” (the “Refresh port list” button next to it reloads the port list), the “Baud Rate” and the “Slave ID (1-247)”. For Modbus TCP, enter the “IP Address”, the “Port” (usually 502) and the “Unit ID”.
  4. Choose the “Reading frequency”.
  5. Under “Readings / Sensors”, press “Add a reading” for each value and enter its name, its “Register” and its “Unit”. Open “Advanced settings” on a row to set the “Data type”, “Scale” and “Displayed decimals”, or to use “Swap word order” or “Swap bytes” if a value reads wrong.
  6. Press “Test connection” and check that the values are read correctly.
  7. Press “Save”. The device appears under “Connected devices”.
  • Devices on the same COM port must use the same Baud Rate, and each needs its own Slave ID.
  • The Modbus RTU device form can also show “Change the settings on the real device (Slave ID / Baud Rate)”. It writes to the device, so read “Writing to real devices” first.

Dashboard

The Dashboard shows the state of the agent and of each device.

Devices online
How many devices are being read normally.
Latest data
How many seconds ago the newest reading arrived.
Uptime
How long the agent has been running, in hours.
Connected devices
Status (“Online”, “Offline” or “Waiting for data”) and latest readings. “Edit” changes the device, “Copy” starts a new device from its settings, “Test” reads it once, and “Export” saves its history to a file.
Restart Agent
Restarts the background service.
  • The side menu has “Dashboard”, “History”, “Raw read”, “Bus monitor” and “Settings”; the “Agent service” box shows “Running” or “Not connected” and has “Restart service”.

History and export

EdgeQuick Lite records readings on this computer. Recording is on after a new installation.

  1. Open “History”.
  2. Choose the “Device”, the “Values shown” and the “Time range” (“24 hours”, “7 days”, “30 days” or “Custom”).
  3. “Live updates” follows new readings and “Refresh” reloads. “Merge charts” shows the values in one chart. “Save view” remembers your selection on this computer.
  4. To export one device, press “Export” on its Dashboard row, choose the “Time range” and the “File format” (CSV or XLSX), and press “Export”.
  5. To export several devices, press “Export multiple devices” and choose the values to export.
  • If recording is off, use Settings → “History recording” → “Enable history recording”. The “Capture interval” can be 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds; press “Save interval”.
  • History data is deleted automatically after 90 days unless you change this in Settings → “History storage”.

Settings

Open “Settings”. Some cards appear only in the desktop app on the gateway computer.

Language
Sets the display language (the app is multi-language); remembered on this computer.
Light mode
Switches between the dark and light themes.
Account
Shows the Modela account you are signed in with, or guest mode (also while a signed-in gateway is offline), and the “Installation reference ID (for support)”, which you can copy in the desktop app.
Back up devices to the cloud
Appears in the desktop app while you are signed in and the computer is online. “Save to Cloud” saves this gateway’s device list (connections and points) to your Modela account and replaces the copy saved earlier from this gateway.
History recording
Turns recording on or off and sets the “Capture interval”.
History storage
In the desktop app, set how many days to keep (1–90) and press “Save retention period”, or delete history data. Lowering the number of days deletes older data right away. Deleted history data cannot be recovered; your device list and settings are not deleted.
LAN / Wi-Fi access
See “LAN / Wi-Fi access” below.
Writing to real devices (Raw Write)
Off by default; read “Writing to real devices” before changing it.
Service control (Windows Service)
“Reload Config” and “Restart service”.
Version and updates
See “Update EdgeQuick Lite”.
Log Viewer
Filters “All”, agent, device, modbus, mqtt and error; “Write history” lists writes to devices.
  • The “Device lists saved in the cloud” prompt appears after sign-in. “Use cloud” replaces the whole device list after saving the current settings to a backup file on this gateway. “Use local” keeps it. After using a cloud list, check the COM port of every Modbus RTU device.

LAN / Wi-Fi access

LAN access is off after installation, so the management screen opens only on this computer.

  1. In the desktop app on the gateway computer, open Settings → “LAN / Wi-Fi access”.
  2. Press “Turn on LAN access (restarts the service; requires Administrator confirmation)” and confirm the Windows prompt. The service restarts and readings pause for a few seconds.
  3. On another device on the same network, open an address listed under “Open the management screen from another device on the network:” and sign in with the “Username” and “Password” shown on the card.
  • As the app warns: “This connection uses plain HTTP, not HTTPS — use it only on a trusted network”.
  • The firewall opens only for Private or Domain networks on the same subnet; change a Public network to Private first.
  • LAN users can view and export data, add, edit or remove devices, and turn history recording on or off. They cannot write raw values, run maintenance actions or Bus monitor, install updates, delete history data, change network settings, or read this password.
  • To turn it off, press “Turn off LAN access (restarts the service; requires Administrator confirmation)”.
  • A phone can open the management screen too, but it is laid out for larger displays.

Update EdgeQuick Lite

EdgeQuick Lite checks Modela’s update server for new versions; the desktop app then shows a “New version …” button in the side menu.

  1. Settings → “Version and updates” → “Check for updates”.
  2. Press “Update”, then in “Update to version …?” choose “Download and install when done” or “Download only”.
  3. The app downloads the installer and checks that it matches the published checksum. If the installer does not start by itself, press “Install now”, then confirm the Windows prompt.
  4. Follow the installer. Installing stops the service and data collection until it finishes; the app closes and restarts.
  • If the download does not match the published checksum, the app deletes it and installs nothing.
  • You can also download the latest installer from the EdgeQuick Lite page and run it over the installed version; your devices and settings are kept.
  • After updating from an earlier version, a gateway computer that has only been used in guest mode asks for a Modela account sign-in once (internet required) before the desktop app can be used again. Your devices, settings and history are kept, and the background service keeps reading your devices.

Status light in the system tray

EdgeQuick Lite shows a status light in the Windows notification area (system tray). In version 1.0.2 its colour follows the Modela AIoT Cloud connection. Sending readings to the cloud is coming soon, so for now the light is red.

Red
What you see for now. The light is red whenever EdgeQuick Lite is not connected to Modela AIoT Cloud, even while it reads your devices normally. It is also red when the background service cannot be reached.
Yellow and green
Used only with a Modela AIoT Cloud connection, which is coming soon.
  • To see whether your devices are read normally, open EdgeQuick Lite and check the Dashboard, not the colour of the light.
  • Point to the icon for a short status in English: the cloud connection, devices online and the reading buffer.
  • Right-click for “Open EdgeQuick Lite”, “Restart Service”, “View Logs” (opens the log folder) and “Quit”; these menu items are in English.
  • Closing the window keeps EdgeQuick Lite in the tray; the background service keeps reading devices even after you quit the app.

Advanced tools

These screens are for people who know their devices’ Modbus settings. Read the warning below before using any tool that writes.

Writing to real devices

Some tools send values to the real device: writing in “Raw read”, “Change the settings on the real device (Slave ID / Baud Rate)” in the device form, and “Recover device” on the Dashboard. As the app warns: “This command writes to the real device immediately and cannot be undone. EdgeQuick Lite cannot restore the original value for you.”

Writing in “Raw read” is off by default. It works only from the computer EdgeQuick Lite is installed on, and turning it on or off needs Windows administrator confirmation (Settings → “Writing to real devices (Raw Write)”). This setting does not switch off “Change the settings on the real device (Slave ID / Baud Rate)” or “Recover device”.

This manual gives no step-by-step instructions for these tools. Use them only if you know the device’s registers from its own manual, and read every warning in the confirmation window before you confirm.

If the app says the write outcome is unknown, do not assume it was not written and do not press the button again. Check the value on the real device before you continue.

If you are not sure, contact Modela before you write anything.

Raw read
Reads register or coil values directly from a saved device (“Choose from saved devices”) or one you enter (“Enter manually”); press “Read”. Reading works with Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP. Some devices clear certain registers when they are read, so check the device manual before reading a register you do not recognize.
Bus monitor
Captures the raw Modbus frames on the bus while capture is on: “Start capture”, then “Stop capture”. It works only on the gateway computer.

Uninstall

Uninstalling removes the app and its background service. You choose whether to keep the data.

  1. Open Windows Settings → Apps, find Edge Click and choose Uninstall.
  2. Confirm the Windows administrator prompt; the uninstaller removes the background service and the LAN access firewall rule.
  3. The uninstaller then asks whether to also remove EdgeQuick Lite configuration and data (the question is shown below, in English). Choose Yes to delete the devices, settings, history, reading buffer and logs in C:ProgramDataConAgent; the saved Modela account sign-in is not deleted. Choose No to keep everything for a later reinstall.

The question on screen:

Also remove EdgeQuick Lite configuration and data (telemetry buffer and logs) in C:\ProgramData\ConAgent?

Choose No to keep them for a future reinstall.

Troubleshooting and help

Common problems and how to get help.

“Cannot connect to the EdgeQuick Lite service” or “Cannot reach the EdgeQuick Lite service”
The background service is not running or not ready. The window reconnects by itself when it is ready; on the “Cannot reach” screen press “Try again”. If the message stays, restart the computer, or open Command Prompt with Run as administrator and run the command below.
The sign-in page has no “Continue as a guest” button
This gateway computer has never been signed in. Sign in once with a Modela account while the computer is connected to the internet; after that, guest mode is available too.
A device shows “Offline”
Check the cable or network and the connection settings (“COM Port”, “Baud Rate” and “Slave ID”, or “IP Address”, “Port” and “Unit ID”), then press “Test” on the device row.
Logs
Settings → “Log Viewer”, or “View Logs” in the tray menu (folder C:\ProgramData\ConAgent\logs).
Contact Modela
Include the “Installation reference ID (for support)” from Settings → “Account” and the version from Settings → “Version and updates”.

Command (Command Prompt, Run as administrator):

net start "edgeclick.exe"
